From India’s stronger-than-expected 7.8% Q1FY27 GDP growth and HDFC Bank’s widening CEO search to ONGC’s ₹1.07 lakh crore investment plans, Maruti Suzuki’s expansion strategy and a new approach to gold and silver SIPs, Jarvis Invest brings you the major developments shaping markets and businesses today.

Stock Market News: India’s Q1FY27 GDP Growth Beats Expectations at 7.8% as GVA Expands 8.2%

Real GDP growth for the first quarter ended June (Q1FY27) came in better than expected at 7.8%, with GVA growth at 8.2%. This may be sequentially lower than Q4, but considering the global macro situation, it was much better than expected. The nominal GDP growth crossed back to above 10.5%, which is the good news, as it shows economic activity recovering. This 7.8% GDP growth comes despite higher inflation impact on GDP deflator. For Q1FY27 real growth in agriculture was 3.6%, manufacturing 9.2%, Trade 8.5%, Financial Services 12.2%, and Construction 7.7%. The steady growth in agriculture could keep agriculture stocks in focus as investors assess the strength of rural demand and the broader economic recovery.

Stock Market News: HDFC Bank Widens CEO Search as Sasidhar Jagdishan’s Tenure Nears Its End

HDFC Bank’s search may go much beyond the current inner circle as the Nominations and Remunerations Committee (NRC) and the RBI will try to get on board the new CEO in two months. Tenure of Sasidhar Jagdishan ends on 26-October and he is not seeking reappointment. While the name of second-in-command, Kaizad Bharucha, has come up as a popular choice, the NRC and RBI may look at a much wider spectrum. Apart from the fact that Bharucha has only 3 years more to retire, the bank will also want to move out of the old guard to make a statement.

IMD Warns of Below-Average September Rainfall as Monsoon Deficit Reaches 13.8%

The Met Department (IMD) forecast below average rainfall for September, hinting that 2026 may be the worst year since 2009 in terms of rainfall deficit. The IMD expects El Nino effect to be more pronounced in September. The spatial distribution of rainfall has been quite skewed with Andhra Pradesh and Bihar witnessing a deficit of over 40%. At the end of August, monsoon deficit stood at 13.8%, and a widening of the deficit in September will impact overall Kharif output, as well as the reservoir levels for Rabi output. Kharif output has been just 1.5% lower than last year. This uneven rainfall pattern could also keep monsoon stocks in focus, particularly companies and sectors linked to agriculture, rural demand, irrigation and water management.

Stock Market News: India’s Fiscal Deficit Reaches 26.8% of FY27 Target by End-July

The update by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) shows fiscal deficit at 26.8% of the full year target as of end July 2026. In May and June, the fiscal deficit numbers had the advantage of full booking of the RBI dividend and the advance tax collections. There was no such edge in July, leading to a ₹1.47 trillion of incremental fiscal deficit in the month. There was a substantial fiscal deficit accretion frontloaded in April this year. Revenue deficit stood at 7.4% of full year target. With substantial FCNR(B) flows, funding the fiscal deficit will not be a problem this year.

Happiest Minds to Merge With ITC Infotech as Ashok Soota-Led Promoters Sell 22.11% Stake

IT company, Happiest Minds, the Ashok Soota venture, will merge with ITC Infotech.
