Stock Market News: HDFC Bank CEO Sasidhar Jagdishan Will Not Seek Reappointment After His Term Ends in October

In an interesting move, HDFC Bank CEO, Sasidhar Jagdishan, decided not to seek reappointment as CEO after his 5-year term expires on 26-Oct 2026. The onus is now on the HDFC Bank Nomination & Remuneration Committee (NRC) and the RBI to finalize his successor. There had been a lot of hue and cry about a second term for Jagdishan due to a series of events in the last one year. The chairman of the board had resigned citing ethical differences, HDFC Bank was being investigated in the US for pass-backs to MSRDC, and product mis-selling was another big issue.

Stock Market News: Temasek Backs Singapore Airlines’ Long-Term Funding Support for Air India

In what could be music to the ears of the Tata group, Temasek has backed Singapore Airlines in providing long-term funding for Air India. It may be recollected that Air India had sought $1.50 billion from Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines; the joint owners of Air India. Due to an uproar in the Singapore parliament, the national airline had sought more time. With the majority shareholder in Singapore Airlines, Temasek, giving the go-ahead, the decks are cleared for investing in Air India. In FY26, Air India reported a net loss of more than ₹22,000 crore, and a massive debt pile.

Subhash Chandra Debt Settlement Raises Questions Over Connected Creditors Under IBC

In the recent NCLT order, settling Subhash Chandra’s personal debt liability case at ₹6.50 crore, a new legal lacunae on connected creditors has come up. In the case of Subhash Chandra, nearly 65% of the voting in the Committee of Creditors (COC) was controlled by entities that are indirectly linked to Chandra. Several creditors had objected to the very small settlement offered by Chandra. However, the IBC is clear that connected entities (even if directors are related) cannot be a case for clubbing of assets, unless the link can be proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Stock Market News: MCX Commodity Turnover Hits Record ₹62.93 Trillion as Options Dominate Trading

For commodity volumes on MCX, 28-Aug marked record all-time high volumes of ₹62.93 trillion. There was a surge in options trading as well as a substantial increase in participation in commodity derivatives. Interestingly, this volume number is 172% higher than the previous peak volumes recorded in November 2025. Options accounted for 98%  of the turnover, while futures accounted for 2%. While a more structured pricing and assaying mechanism has been a reason; there are also analyst views that speculative equity F&O volumes may have shifted to commodities.

Goldman Sachs Sees Gold at $4,900/oz by End-2026 as Central Bank Buying Supports Outlook

Goldman Sachs continues to be bullish on gold; and has projected the price to touch $4,900/oz by the end of 2026. That is about 8% upside from current levels. Goldman Sachs expects this rally in gold to be largely driven by central bank buying. However, in his Jackson Hole speech over the weekend, Kevin Warsh underlined the risks of rising inflation, which hints at a possible rate hike in the upcoming Fed meet. A rate hike increases the opportunity cost of holding gold. Gold buying by central banks has risen since the US government froze Russian dollar assets in 2022.

Stock Market News: Kharif Sowing Just 1.5% Lower Despite 13% Rainfall Deficit as September Rains Turn Crucial

As of end-August, despite a 13% rainfall deficit, Kharif sowing was just 1.5% short of last year. A lot will, therefore, depend on how the monsoons pan out in September. Last year, at the same time, rainfall was at a 5% surplus. However, the spatial distribution of rainfall has been rather erratic with deficit above 40% in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. A key to the Rabi crop is reservoir levels; which stands at 64% as of end August, up from 44% in end-July. The key to a satisfactory Kharif and Rabi output this year will largely depend on the quantum and distribution of September rains.

Vodafone Idea Plans ₹49,000 Crore Spectrum Payments and ₹45,000 Crore Network Expansion

It looks like Vodafone Idea finally has much better visibility on earnings and cash flows. The company expects to pay nearly ₹49,000 crore of its spectrum dues to the DOT over the next 3 years. VI will pay ₹7,000 crore in FY27, ₹15,000 crore in FY28, and ₹27,000 crore in FY29. These payouts will be funded on the back of expanding EBITDA and internal cash flow generation, while any gaps will be filled up with bank funding. To be a serious player in the virtual duopoly in the telecom sector, Vodafone Idea will also invest ₹45,000 crore on network expansion plans.

Stock Market News: Currency Hedging Costs Could Add 6%–8% to Green Project Financing Costs

According to a report authored by CII and IIM-Ahmedabad; currency hedging costs could add 6% to 8% to the financing costs of green projects. This could deter several institutional investors as it raises the cost of foreign capital. The report suggested a Green Financing Risk Hedging intermediary to soften the currency risk costs to green energy borrowers. Most companies use short-term hedges which cost between 6%  to 8% per year. The proposed Green Finance Institution (GFI) will combine concessional funding, forex solutions, guarantees, and climate insurance.
