The proposed IDBI Bank stake sale, rising electric vehicle sales, ITC’s earnings, healthcare private equity investments and Coal India’s falling stockpiles also offer important signals for investors. Here are the eight developments to watch.
Sensex Gains 3,670 Points in Four Sessions: Key Stock Market News
The Sensex has now soared by a whopping 3,670 points in the last 4 trading days since the listing of Jio Platforms. While Reliance led the rally on Monday, other heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, and ICICI Bank also joined the fray on Tuesday. However, analysts have cautioned that much of the rally may be a knee-jerk reaction to the sharp fall in crude prices. The reported attacks by the US on Qeshm islands could play spoilsport. The unravelling of the global AI rally helped Indian IT stocks. FPIs have turned net buyers in last few days, although undertone is cautious.
SBI Reports 14.3% Profit Growth in Q2FY27: Stock Market News
SBI reported stellar 14.3% growth in net profits in Q2FY27 at ₹23,038 crore led by an exceptional gain of ₹7,289 crore from the sale of stake in SBI Funds Management during the quarter. Credit deposit (C/D) ratio for the quarter stood at 73.0%, compared to the 74.2% in the previous quarter.
Rabi Sowing Falls 45.6% as Rainfall Deficit Raises Inflation Concerns
The impact of the monsoon deficit is showing as Rabi sowing as of 31-October is down 45.6% compared to last year. The area under Rabi crop sowing fell from 69 lakh hectares last year to just 37.6 lakh hectares this year. While overall rainfall deficit was 13%, the October deficit was 48%, which led to low reservoir levels across India. Both oilseeds and pulses recorded a sharp fall in the acreage. Pulses fell -51.7%, Gram fell -58.9%, and Lentils fell -48.6% in terms of Rabi sowing. This hints at a possible spike in food inflation in coming months, and a spike in headline inflation.
IDBI Bank Stake Sale Faces Opposition Despite ₹53,000 Crore Deal: Stock Market News
Fairfax may have convinced the government and the LIC to sell 60.72% of IDBI Bank for ₹53,000 crore or $5.59 billion, but they face bigger problems ahead. The deal is facing strong opposition from employees and from the political opposition parties. One of the arguments of the employee union is that IDBI Bank was handed over on a platter to Fairfax and valued like a PSU bank, rather than like a private sector bank. IDBI Bank had been a sale candidate for a long time, but repeated attempts in the past had failed as they could not get buyer interest at a good valuation.
Electric Vehicle Sales Double in October as Market Share Rises
Even as tractor sales continue to be under pressure and rural sales have been slow, the sales of electrical vehicles have doubled in October on a yoy basis. October 2026 saw sales of 35,777 EV units, compared to 18,055 units in October 2025. The share of EVs, in the overall passenger vehicle basket has increased yoy from 3.2% to 7.0% market share. ITC Q2 Profit Falls 20.1% Despite Revenue Growth: Stock Market News
For Q2FY27, ITC Ltd reported 20.1% lower profits at ₹4,137 crore. Revenues were up 43.9% yoy at ₹28,318 crore. The fall in profits was triggered by lower revenues from its cigarettes business, which outweighed gains made in the consumer goods, agri, and paper business. The gross revenues would be effectively lower if the impact of higher excise duties was adjusted for. If the excise impact was removed, the overall growth in sales was just about 3.9%. FMCG business saw revenue growth of 19.1% at ₹7,218 crore; and 31.4% profit growth at ₹577 crore in Q2FY27.
