Today’s stock market news brings together some major developments across IPOs, banking, mutual funds, energy, regulation, and market infrastructure. NSE has reduced the size of its upcoming IPO, Brent crude at $105 is putting fresh pressure on oil marketing companies, and HDFC Bank has secured a significant legal victory in Bahrain. Meanwhile, record SIP flows, rising mutual fund assets, green-energy investments by cement companies, tighter ecommerce rules, and SEBI’s tokenized bond pilot are shaping the broader market narrative. Here’s Jarvis Invest with the key developments investors need to track.

Stock Market News: NSE Cuts IPO Size by Nearly 15% Ahead of September 17 Opening

NSE has trimmed its IPO size by nearly 15%. Against the 14.89 crore shares planned originally, now NSE will only offer 12.64 crore shares via OFS. The IPO is slated to open on September 17, 2026 in the price band of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785. Hence, at the upper band price of ₹1,785, the IPO size would be around ₹22,562 crore. At that level, it will be much smaller than the Hyundai Motors India IPO. Morgan Stanley has reduced the shares it is offering in the OFS from 1.60 crore to 1.10 crore, while SBI will now sell just 77 lakh shares in the IPO. Others will retain their sell quantities.

Stock Market News: Brent Crude at $105 Puts Oil Marketing Companies Under Pressure

With Brent Crude spiking to its highest level since mid-2023 of $105/bbl, downstream marketing companies have a new sort of problem to contend with. At the average price for September, the marketing margins are around ₹(-5) per litre for petrol and ₹(-23) per litre for diesel. While the OMCs have the discretion to reset prices, it is not that simple as higher prices of diesel has larger implications for inflation and is also politically sensitive. India is already the third largest consumer and importer of crude oil and is especially vulnerable to the turmoil in the Middle East.

Stock Market News: HDFC Bank Wins All Seven Credit Suisse AT-1 Cases in Bahrain

In a major boost to HDFC Bank, it has won all seven cases filed against the bank in Bahrain over mis-selling of Credit Suisse AT-1 bonds. In all the cases, the investors were asked to bear the cost of the legal proceedings. The seven customers had accused HDFC Bank of gross negligence, non-disclosure of product features, misuse of leverage, and violation of product suitability. The Bahrain Court dismissed all these charges. According to the court, the investors could not substantiate with proof that they had suffered a monetary loss owing to the actions of HDFC Bank.

Stock Market News: Mutual Fund AUM Hits ₹87.08 Trillion as Equity Inflows Stay Strong

For the month of August, mutual funds saw net inflows of ₹41,354 crore; taking the total MF AUM to ₹87.08 trillion. Debt funds came under pressure with most of the redemptions seen in overnight funds. Active equity funds saw strong net inflows of ₹29,329 crore in August, led by small cap funds at ₹7,973 crore, mid-cap funds at ₹6,989 crore, and flexi-cap funds at ₹5,059 crore. Large cap funds continued to see net outflows. AMFI has done a more elaborate classification of fund categories with life cycle funds being added; and ETFs and index funds classified separately.

Stock Market News: SIP Flows Hit Record ₹32,297 Crore in August 2026

SIP flows into mutual funds for August 2026 touched a record high of ₹32,297 crore, crossing the ₹32,000 crore mark for the first time. Of course, these are gross flows. The number of SIP accounts at the end of August stood at 10.62 crore, with 12.57 lakh SIP folios being added during the month of August. SIP stoppage ratio fell marginally to 81.1%, showing greater stability in flows. Overall SIP AUM stood at ₹18.62 trillion, accounting for about 21.4% of overall MF AUM. There has been a quantum jump in SIP flows into mutual funds post the COVID pandemic, for goal planning.

Cement Companies Line Up ₹13,000 Crore Green Energy Investment

Cement companies have lined up an investment of ₹13,000 crore for investing in green energy. The idea is to push the use of green energy to 50% of their power usage basket. Cement is very intensive in the use of power, freight, and packaging. The target for major cement companies is to raise the RE capacity to 6 GW by 2028. The added capacities could generate annual savings of up to ₹6,700 crore at an industry level, reducing the payback period by nearly 2 years. A 25% shift to green energy (as planned) can lower costs by $80/tonne and expand OPM by 160 bps.

India Tightens Ecommerce Rules to Tackle Dark Patterns and Price Manipulation

Effective from January 2027, India will see a new set of ecommerce rules at play. The government has amended the rules to check price manipulation, dark patterns, and fake sponsored listings. Ecommerce sites will also have to partner with the National Consumer Helpline for grievance redressal. In 2025 alone, the NCH received 17.72 lakh grievances, of which nearly 29% pertained to the ecommerce sector. Ecommerce companies have to also be more transparent about prior price, discounted price, product seller data, expiry dates, refunds, warranties etc.

SEBI Launches Tokenized Bond Pilot Under Demat 2.0

SEBI has launched a tokenized bond pilot under Demat 2.0 and plans to eventually extend it to other asset classes too. The pilot project will also explore whether distributed ledger technology (blockchain) can enable faster settlement in the markets. If Demat 2.0 is successful, then India could be looking at a totally new market infrastructure architecture where securities, settlement, and servicing can be integrated under one umbrella. It will be using the RBI’s central bank digital currency (CBDC) and combine that with a digital smart-contract functionality.

Conclusion

From NSE’s ₹22,562 crore IPO and record ₹32,297 crore SIP flows to rising crude prices and SEBI experimenting with tokenized bonds, today’s stock market news highlights how quickly India’s financial landscape is evolving. Capital markets, household investments, corporate energy strategies, consumer regulation, and financial technology are all seeing significant shifts.
