Indian markets enter another eventful session as inflation, crude oil prices, corporate acquisitions, and regulatory developments dominate stock market news. August CPI inflation climbed to an eight-month high of 4.82%, while WPI inflation surged to 9.92%, adding to concerns around rising input costs. Meanwhile, Brent crude touched $110 per barrel following disruptions to Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline. On the corporate front, Tata Sons’ potential listing is back in focus, while major deals involving GRT Jewellers and Solar Industries add to the action. Jarvis Invest brings you the key developments shaping markets today.
Stock Market News: August CPI Inflation Jumps to 8-Month High of 4.82%
CPI inflation for August 2026 spiked to an 8-month high of 4.82%; a full 37 bps higher than July. This is broadly in line with expectations. The inflation spike was largely led by food inflation, even as rising fuel prices was also a key contributing factor. Food inflation for August touched 5.95%, with rural inflation scaling up to 6.13%. The pressure on inflation came, not only from food and fuel, but even services like restaurants, hotels, personal care, and social protection services. A spike in gold and silver prices in the month also led to higher core inflation in August.
Stock Market News: Tata Sons Listing Back in Focus After RBI Rejects CIC Exit
With the RBI rejecting the Tata Sons application to surrender its CIC status, it now looks like a public issue and listing would be inevitable for Tata Sons. It remains to be seen if Tata Sons goes to court to challenge the RBI ruling. The big question is; what happens to the special rights enjoyed by the Tata Trusts, once Tata Sons becomes a listed company. As an upper layer NBFC, Tata Sons should have listed before September 2025, so RBI is not willing to give more time. Tata Trusts have been allowed to keep a special position, but that may now come under question.
Stock Market News: Brent Crude Hits $110 as Saudi Pipeline Attacks Deepen Supply Crisis
Brent Crude spiked to $110/bbl after repeated drone attacks put Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline out of service for several weeks. With the Straits of Hormuz nearly shut, the east-west pipeline was the only hope to bring Gulf oil supplies to the market. Now even that prospect has been done away with. The drone strikes were apparently launched from Iraq. Most of the Gulf nations are producing oil well below their OPEC quotas. Chinese inventories have declined sharply in the last few months, so China has been an aggressive buyer in the global oil market.
GRT Jewellers Acquires TBZ for ₹1,034 Crore, Expanding to 105 Stores
GRT Jewellers recently acquired TBZ for a consideration of ₹1,034 crore. While TBZ gives a ready footprint to GRT in Western India; it has to contend with falling sales of TBS in the last few years. The deal gives GRT access to the 37-store network of TBZ. For GRT, it is an opportunity to combine its retail capabilities with the heritage, customer relationships, and merchandise portfolio of TBZ. With the acquisition, the store count for GRT goes up from 68 to 105 stores. TBZ had gone public in 2012, but since then, its growth has lagged. Gold volumes fell sharply in last 3 years.
RBI Proposes New Cyber Fraud Rules to Freeze Only Disputed Account Amounts
Freezing of accounts for cyber frauds has become quite a controversial issue in recent times. Now, RBI is proposing a framework, wherein only the disputed amounts will be frozen in the case of cyber fraud. The idea is to prevent cyber frauds through mule accounts, but this has become a classic case of overreach, where innocent customers are being harassed. Also, in the new framework, the customer gest 20 days to prove the legitimacy of the transaction. Banks get 10 days to assess and have to lift the blockade if the explanation is satisfactory.
Solar Industries Acquires South Africa’s Omnia Holdings in ₹12,951 Crore Deal

Stock Market News: WPI Inflation Surges to 9.92% as Oil and War Costs Bite
The West Asia conflict also drove WPI inflation higher to 9.92% for August 2026. WPI inflation has spiked from -1.18% in October 2025 to 9.92% in August 2026; led by a spike in crude oil prices and the downstream impact of supply chain constraints caused by the war. This is the fourth month in succession that WPI inflation has been above 9%. WPI food index for August was up at 7.05%, while the heavyweight manufacturing basket was up by 8.37% for the month. Of course, bulk of the pressure continued to come from fuel inflation, with its strong externalities.
