The stock market news today highlights a mix of major corporate developments, changing commodity dynamics and emerging risks for the Indian economy. Jarvis Invest brings you the key stock market news updates, from Reliance Jio’s potential ₹37,700 crore IPO to concerns around weak monsoons, rural demand and FMCG growth. Saudi Arabia’s sharp crude price cut, potential telecom tariff hikes and developments across insurance, real estate and automobiles are also shaping the broader investment landscape.

From Jio’s expected IPO plans and Shapoorji Pallonji’s real estate listing decision to Star Health’s potential strategic investment and Honda’s partnership with Tata Technologies, today’s developments offer several important signals for investors. Here are the key stock market news updates you need to know.

Stock Market News: Reliance Jio IPO Likely in Third Week of October at ₹37,700 Crore

According to a Reuters report, the Reliance Jio IPO is likely to open in the third week of October. The official announcement from the company is awaited. The Jio IPO has been in focus for a long time as it is slated to be the biggest IPO in Indian history. The IPO will raise $3.9 billion entirely through a fresh issue. In rupee terms, the IPO size will be around ₹37,700 crore, substantially bigger than the Hyundai India IPO, which had raised ₹27,859 crore in October 2024. Out of the fresh funds, Reliance Jio will use nearly ₹27,500 crore for prepaying some of its long-term loans.

Stock Market News: Weak Monsoon Threatens Rural Demand and FMCG Growth

Weak monsoons this year is likely to put pressure on rural demand. While Kharif output is expected to be at par with last year, the real damage would be in the Rabi output. The September quarter FMCG numbers are already showing a contraction in rural sales and that has larger implications for sectors like FMCG, automobiles, consumer durables etc. As per the IMD, the total monsoon shortfall this year was 12.6%, compared to the long-period average (LPA). Even tractor sales, a function of rural purchasing power, saw a sharp contraction across major players.

Stock Market News: Saudi Arabia Offers Biggest Arab Light Crude Discount in Six Years

Saudi Arabia cut crude prices of flagship Arab Light Crude for Asia to its biggest discount in last 6 years. This will help to offset some of the support costs that oil importers are bearing. According to a Kotak report, while the screen may show $100/bbl as the crude price, the actual cost for importers in the physical market will be closer to $145/bbl.  This massive difference is due to the spike in VLCC freight rates, which have risen to $1 million, adding $25/bbl to the cost. Screen prices have lost relevance, and that is the dichotomy that Saudi Arabia is trying to address.

Stock Market News: Shapoorji Pallonji Shelves Real Estate IPO Amid ₹55,000 Crore Debt

Shapoorji Pallonji group shelved plans to list its real estate arm. The IPO was critical to the group in managing its ₹55,000 crore debt pile. One reason is that it is not getting the required valuations. However, it could also be indicative of progress on talks regarding monetization of its stake in Tata Sons. The SP group holds about 18.4% stake in Tata Sons, and Noel Tata had hinted at a plan to monetize about ₹25,000 crore through a stock swap of listed Tata group shares. For SP group it is not just about the size of debt, but also the steep cost of 17-18% it is paying on this debt.

Stock Market News: Star Health Explores Strategic Investment From Major Japanese Insurers

Star Health Insurance, with majority stakes owned by Westbridge and Rekha Jhunjhunwala, may be looking at strategic partners to come in as investors. The company is already in talks with large Japanese groups for the stake sale. Some of the Japanese companies that have shown interest in this stake are Tokio Marine, Sompo Japan, Nippon Life, and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. Company representatives were in Japan recently and also held meetings with other big groups like Mitsui, Daiwa, and Nomura. The company has recently shown a turnaround in performance,

GST Council May Consider Input Tax Credit Relief for Group Health and Life Insurance

To encourage companies to extend health insurance benefits to employees, there is a proposal to extent GST credit relief to group life and group health insurance policies. This was the bone of contention after the government had scrapped the 18% GST on life and health insurance policies in 2025; other than group insurance policies. This is likely to be taken up for debate in the 57th GST Council Meeting scheduled on 07-October. Since group policies continue to pay GST at 18%, it is only logical that they get the input tax credit for the inputs that go into this activity.

Telecom Companies May Raise Tariffs 12–15% as Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea Gain Customers

According to an institutional research report, the Indian telecom sector is likely to see 12-15% tariff hike in the next 4-5 months. During this period, Jio is expected to add about 8 million customers; while Airtel and Vodafone Idea are expected to add 3 million and 1 million customers respectively. The market consolidation has made the situation more conducive to a price hike. All the 3 major telecom players in India are expected to show an improvement in ARPUs. The surge will be led by migration to 4G/5G, addition of postpaid customers, and more days in the quarter.

Honda Targets 20% Cost Cuts Through Tata Technologies Partnership for Faster Car Development

Honda is targeting cost cuts of 20% and faster development of cars in collaboration with Tata Technologies. Honda is currently facing margin pressures. The first vehicle under this collaboration arrangement will be a small SUV, set to be launched in 2028. Last year, Honda saw global losses of $12 billion attributed to electrical vehicles. It plans to cut more than $9 billion in costs over the next 4 years. Tata Technologies will help Honda cut costs by 20% and halve its development cycle to 2.5 years. Tata Technologies was spun off from Tata Motors and is currently listed.

Conclusion

Today’s stock market news reflects the range of forces investors are navigating, from corporate fundraising and commodity prices to rural demand, insurance and telecom developments. Jarvis Invest brings together these stock market news developments to help investors understand the key forces influencing Indian markets. The potential Reliance Jio IPO could set a new benchmark for India’s primary markets, while Saudi Arabia’s crude discount may provide some relief to importers facing elevated physical-market costs.

Meanwhile, weak monsoons remain a concern for consumption-linked sectors, while potential telecom tariff hikes, strategic interest in Star Health, GST changes for group insurance and Honda’s cost-cutting partnership with Tata Technologies point to important shifts across several industries. For investors tracking these developments, corporate strategy, input costs, rural demand and policy changes will remain important themes in the market.
