In April and May, the benchmark price of India crude basket had been above $100/bbl; before tapering in June. Renewed hostilities between the US and Iran, blockade of the Straits of Hormuz and Houthi attacks on the Bab-al-Mandeb in the Red Sea spiked crude oil prices.
Stock Market News: Manipal Healthcare Announces ₹9,275 Crore IPO
Manipal Healthcare, backed by Temasek, has announced its IPO price band in the range of ₹560-₹590 per share. The ₹9,275 crore IPO will open for subscription on 29-July and close on 31-July. The IPO will include a fresh issue of ₹8,000 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of ₹1,275 crore. The fresh funds will be utilized by Manipal Healthcare substantially for repayment of borrowings. The issue is being lead-managed by Kotak, Axis, Goldman Sachs, Jefferies, JP Morgan, UBS, and DBS Bank. It has a pan-India network of 49 hospitals with licensed capacity of 13,037 beds.
Stock Market News: NTPC Plans ₹12,000 Crore Debt Raise to Fuel Expansion
NTPC Ltd approved raising ₹12,000 crore through the issue of NCDs. The issue will be made in tranches and the yield for each tranche will be decided based on the debt market conditions prevailing at that point of time. On a yoy basis, NTPC saw its generation capacity increase from 82,646 MW to 90,904 MW. In the June quarter, NTPC generated 93.63 billion units (BU) indicating a plant load factor (PLF) of 76.71%. This is sharply higher than the all-India average for coal-based power plants at 70.32% PLF. Average tariffs in the quarter were tad lower at ₹4.86/unit.
Why Hindustan Zinc Is Doubling Down on Silver Production
Hindustan Zinc, part of the Vedanta group, is betting big on its silver operations, by doubling output in the next 5 years. It plans to capitalize on rising silver prices and booming industrial demand. Silver prices are down since the January peak from $121/oz to $58/oz; but still at very profitable levels for silver production. It plans to raise its silver production to 1,200 to 1,300 tonnes annually. A focus on silver amplifies PAT margins as it accounts for 50% of EBIT. With rising demand for silver from EVs, data centres, and electronics; global supply of silver is falling woefully short.

According to data released by CBDT, nearly 7.3 crore returns have already been filed for financial year 2025-26, with about 7 days to go for the tax filing deadline. That is more than the comparable period of the previous financial year. It may be recollected that the CBDT has moved to the new Income Tax Rules. It not only simplifies the number of sections, but also standardizes into one single definition of Tax Year; by getting rid of the more complicated Assessment Year and Financial Year. Tax filing normally picks up momentum in the last week, when CAs file in bulk.
HCL Tech Bets Big on AI with ₹14,257 Crore Odisha Data Centre
HCL Tech will set up a data centre in Odisha, with an investment of ₹14,257 crore. HCL Tech has partnered with the Odisha government and AI startup, Sarvam, for the same. This will be supported by another Global Technology Centre (GTC) to be set up by HCL Tech in Bhubaneshwar to develop and deliver AI-powered digital solutions for global business. The centre is likely to be operational from 2028 onwards. HCL Tech has already invested close to $150 million in Sarvam AI. They will build a full-stack AI platform spanning models, applications, and managed services.

A recent report by SBI Caps has highlighted that Green Hydrogen in India may need low-cost Chinese electrolysers to keep costs under check. India is planning 5 million TPA of green hydrogen equivalent capacity, but that may not be feasible without economical Chinese electrolysers. As per the report, India’s first wave of green hydrogen plans must be based on Chinese electrolysers, if it has to be financially viable. Government auctions for green hydrogen and green ammonia have drawn a lot of buyer interest, although bidding has been largely below the reserve price.
