Stocks with Strong Fundamentals in August 2026

The Best Investment Opportunities Are Rarely the Most Popular

When markets trade near record highs, finding reasonably valued businesses becomes increasingly difficult. Investors often chase momentum stocks, pushing valuations to expensive levels, while fundamentally strong companies facing temporary headwinds quietly slip below the radar.

History shows that some of the biggest wealth creators were accumulated during periods when market sentiment was weak but business fundamentals remained intact.

The biggest mistake investors make is confusing a low share price with a cheap stock. A company trading at ₹80 isn’t necessarily a bargain, just as a ₹3,000 stock isn’t automatically expensive. What truly matters is whether the business is generating sustainable earnings, maintaining a healthy balance sheet, and trading below its intrinsic value. For long-term investors, these companies often offer a better risk-reward profile than chasing stocks already priced for perfection.

Where Are the Opportunities Today?

Although several sectors continue to command premium valuations, opportunities still exist in select PSU banks, utilities, technology distributors and commodity businesses.

Improving earnings, stronger balance sheets and favourable industry tailwinds have created investment opportunities where valuations haven’t fully reflected the underlying business performance.

Here are five companies that deserve a closer look:

1. Canara Bank – A PSU Banking Giant Trading Below Its Potential
Canara bank ltd stock price 127 00 inr with a 1 year line chart showing gains to around 150 in late 2025 and a dip in 2026 current date august 2026

Canara Bank has emerged as one of India’s strongest public sector banking turnaround stories. The lender reported a standalone Q4 FY25 net profit of ₹5,004 crore, taking its full-year profitability to record levels. Gross NPAs declined to 2.94%, while Return on Assets improved to around 1.3%, reflecting a significant improvement in asset quality and operational efficiency.

Despite these gains, the stock continues to trade close to 1x Price-to-Book, considerably lower than many private sector peers. Healthy credit growth, improving digital banking capabilities and strong capital adequacy support its long-term investment case, although investors should monitor net interest margins as interest rates evolve.

2. Bank of Baroda – Improving Fundamentals Make The Valuation Hard To Ignore

Bank of Baroda has steadily strengthened its balance sheet over the past few years while delivering consistent earnings growth. The bank reported Q4 FY25 net profit of ₹5,048 crore, supported by healthy loan growth and improving operational efficiency. Gross NPAs have reduced to nearly 2.3%, among the lowest levels in recent years, while the bank continues to maintain a comfortable capital adequacy ratio.

Even after this turnaround, the stock trades at an attractive valuation relative to its historical averages and many private banking peers. Continued credit growth and improving retail penetration remain key growth drivers, though any slowdown in the credit cycle could weigh on profitability.

3. Redington – An Under-the-Radar Technology Compounder

redington stock price today

While most investors associate the technology sector with software companies, Redington has quietly built one of India’s largest technology distribution businesses, operating across more than 40 markets and partnering with global brands such as Apple, Microsoft and HP. In FY25, the company reported revenue of over ₹93,000 crore, while maintaining an ROE of around 22% and a healthy return profile despite operating in a low-margin industry.

Trading at a single-digit P/E multiple, Redington remains attractively valued compared to many technology-related businesses. As enterprise IT spending, cloud adoption and AI infrastructure investments continue to rise, the company is well-positioned to benefit. However, slower global technology spending remains a key risk that investors should monitor.

4. NALCO – Benefiting from India’s Manufacturing and Infrastructure Push
National aluminium co ltd stock price 365 05 inr with a 1 year price chart showing a rise toward ~400 inr in 2026 and a recent dip
national aluminium Co Ltd stock price today

National Aluminium Company (NALCO) continues to benefit from India’s growing infrastructure investments and the government’s focus on domestic manufacturing. The company reported a sharp improvement in profitability during FY25 as aluminium prices stabilised and operational efficiencies improved. Its virtually debt-free balance sheet, strong cash reserves and healthy dividend payout make it one of the stronger value plays within the metals sector.

Despite the earnings recovery, the stock continues to trade at a reasonable valuation compared to many commodity peers. Investors, however, should remember that aluminium prices remain closely linked to global economic activity, making commodity price volatility the biggest risk to the investment thesis.

CESC – A Defensive Business with Predictable Cash Flows

5. CESC – A Defensive Business with Predictable Cash Flows
Cesc ltd stock price 166 08 inr with a 1 year price chart showing fluctuations from late 2025 to aug 2026 current update 1 39
cese stock price today

CESC rarely dominates market headlines, but its stable business model makes it an attractive option for conservative investors. The company’s regulated power distribution business provides predictable cash flows, while its presence across power generation and retail distribution supports long-term earnings visibility. Unlike many cyclical businesses, utilities generally benefit from consistent demand regardless of broader economic conditions.

Although earnings growth may not match high-growth sectors, CESC’s reasonable valuation, stable dividend history and defensive nature make it an appealing long-term compounder. Regulatory changes and delays in tariff revisions, however, remain important risks for investors.

What Could Go Wrong?

Cheap stocks do not always translate into good investments. Some companies trade at low valuations because their underlying businesses face structural challenges rather than temporary setbacks. Investors should avoid businesses with deteriorating earnings, excessive debt or weak corporate governance simply because they appear inexpensive.

A disciplined approach focused on balance sheet strength, earnings quality and sustainable cash flows remains essential while identifying genuine value opportunities.

Jarvis Verdict

Finding cheap stocks with strong fundamentals requires looking beyond short-term market sentiment and focusing on businesses capable of compounding earnings over the long run. Companies such as Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, Redington, NALCO and CESC continue to demonstrate improving financial performance while trading at valuations that remain reasonable compared to their long-term potential.

While each business carries its own set of risks, their improving fundamentals and favourable industry outlook make them worth tracking. Rather than chasing momentum, long-term investors may benefit from gradually accumulating fundamentally strong businesses during market corrections, where valuation and quality come together to create attractive investment opportunities.
