Best Lithium & Battery Stocks in India To Watch Now in 2026

The battery stocks in india narrative in India is getting more significant than EVs. Today, lithium-ion cells are required for EV Sector, renewable-energy storage, telecom infrastructure, data centers and household power backup. This opens up the opportunity in battery manufacturing, cathode and anode materials, electrolytes, recycling and grid-scale storage.

One point to note for investors looking for the best lithium stocks in India is that commercial lithium mining in India is still in its infancy. The government still continues to auction off blocks of critical minerals, such as lithium-bearing assets, and most of the opportunities listed are not actually lithium mines but instead are in batteries and battery materials. The Ministry of Mines has recently announced another round of auctions for critical minerals in July 2026, which included a lithium-bearing block in West Bengal.

So the robust 2026 watchlist includes the entire battery value chain, not just companies with the word “lithium” in their name.

Why Battery Stocks Have a Bigger Opportunity Than EVs Alone

The energy storage demand in India is growing rapidly with the growth of renewable energy. According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the country might need 34.72 GWh of battery energy storage in FY27, which would increase to 236.22 GWh in FY32.

The government is also incentivizing the production of domestic cells with its ₹18,100 crore Advanced Chemistry Cell PLI scheme. Manufacturers are expected to gradually build up the domestic value addition as compared to using imported cells and components.

This means battery stocks in India can benefit from several connected opportunities:

  • Batteries and packs for EVs
  • Grid-scale BESS
  • Lithium battery materials
  • Production of cathodes and anodes.
  • Battery recycling
  • Traditional automotive batteries

This overall ecosystem offers more listed opportunities for investors considering lithium stocks India 2026 than does lithium mining alone.

1. Exide Industries – Traditional Battery Leader Moving Into Lithium-Ion Cells

Exide is among the oldest and best battery stocks in India as its current lead-acid business generates cash flow, while its subsidiary, Exide Energy Solutions, develops lithium-ion.

It saw a growth of around 17.6% in its Q1 FY27 turnover, which came in at ₹5,305 crore, and the net profit grew by around 27% to ₹407 crore.

The larger long-term impetus is the lithium-ion cell industry. Exide Energy Solutions is working on setting up lithium-ion cell manufacturing in India and has earlier signed deals for battery supply for the Indian business of Hyundai and Kia.

This provides investors with access to the automotive market as well as the EV battery market.

Investment crux: Exide already has a profitable battery business to support the transition, but investors should watch for the amount of capital needed for the lithium project and when new capacity can be utilized at a significant level.

2. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility: Building a 16 GWh Gigafactory

Amara Raja is one of the most significant transformations happening among the battery makers in India.

The company is in the process of developing a lithium-ion cell and battery-pack Gigafactory at Divitipally in Telangana with a long-term capacity of up to 16GWh. It is developing battery packs and battery-management systems, as well as LFP and NMC lithium-ion chemistries on its research platform.

Amara Raja has acquired the licence for LFP Technology and will launch the rollout of its cells with standardized batteries for electric two-wheelers and energy storage applications. Production of EV cells will start in phases from 2027.

That makes Amara Raja one of the most transparent EV battery stocks in India, among the listed companies.

Investment crux: The opportunity is big, but cell capacity is capital intensive. Investors should pay attention to commissioning dates, customer orders, cell yields and return on new investment; they shouldn’t just look at the announced GWh capacity.

3. Himadri Specialty Chemical: A Battery-Materials Play

Himadri is different in that it is taking a more in-depth look at the materials within a lithium-ion cell.

The company is working on LFP cathode materials and is also establishing manufacturing facilities for synthetic anode graphite, lithium refining and recycling. Domestic material suppliers have an important role in the value chain, as cathode and anode materials can account for a significant share of lithium-ion battery costs, says Himadri.

It has also got its present business running well. Q1 FY27 revenue grew 28% to ₹1,431.88 crore, while net profit increased 27.4% to ₹228.43 crore.

Himadri has also set up an anode-material plant and is working on India’s first commercial LFP cathode-material project in Odisha.

Investment crux: Himadri provides upstream battery exposure, but new-energy materials must eventually become a meaningful contributor to revenue and returns.

4. Neogen Chemicals: Electrolytes and Lithium Salts

One of the more specialized opportunities for battery materials is Neogen Chemicals.

The company will produce lithium-ion battery electrolytes, electrolyte salts and additives via Neogen Ionics. The Dahej project will be for approximately 30,000 tonnes of electrolyte capacity and 5,500 tonnes of electrolyte salts and additives.

Its core chemicals business also posted a healthy Q1 FY27 growth. Revenue grew 34% year on year to ₹250.29 crore and PAT grew almost 67% to ₹17.11 crore.

Local production can help as domestic cell factories scale as electrolytes are crucial to the movement of lithium ions between the battery’s cathode and anode.

Investment crux: Neogen is somewhat more directly exposed to battery materials, but its new projects are in the investment and ramp-up stage. Future returns will be based on execution, utilization and customer qualification.

5. Gravita India: Battery Recycling Becomes a New Growth Option

Battery recycling is gaining significance in India’s battery value chain, as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and other materials can be recovered from used batteries.

In January 2026, Gravita invested approximately ₹14 crore in a 6,000 MTPA lithium-ion battery recycling plant at Mundra. It can process chemistries such as LFP and NMC and recover the materials for use in the battery supply chain.

This puts Gravita in the mix of the new battery recycling stocks in India, while lead recycling is still a much larger share of the existing business.

Investment crux: Lithium recycling is a viable long-term solution, but it is important that investors do not assign the entire valuation of the company as a lithium recycling company until the new vertical has an impact on the company’s revenue and profit.

6. Tata Power: A BESS Opportunity Rather Than a Cell Manufacturer

Tata Power should be on the list for other reasons. It’s not a lithium-ion cell maker, but it’s developing exposure to grid and distributed battery storage.

The company has bagged a 30 MW/120 MWh BESS project in Kerala and has introduced solar-plus-storage solutions for homes and enterprises.

That renders Tata Power relevant in the eyes of investors looking for Battery stocks India. As the penetration of renewable energy increases, the growth opportunity also could be big, as there is a greater need for energy shifting and grid stability.

Investment crux: Storage is but an aspect of Tata Power’s much bigger business. Investors investing just for BESS exposure need to be aware that the near-term earnings will continue to be dominated by the wider power, renewables and distribution portfolio.

Which Battery Theme Looks Strongest for the Long Term?

The answer is dependent on the kind of exposure that an investor desires.

Exide and Amara Raja offer more direct exposure to the battery-manufacturing market. Himadri and Neogen are materials opportunities that could provide higher-growth. Gravita provides a circular-economy angle, while Tata Power offers exposure to the deployment of large storage systems.

Comparing these businesses on the basis of earnings, capex and valuation can be facilitated through the use of AI for stock selection. A best AI for stock research process should also differentiate between a battery company and a battery project that hasn’t made any real money.

Likewise, debt, cash flow, project commissioning and return on capital are all things that should be explored by AI portfolio analysis can be useful for investors to avoid overinvesting in a single EV or energy-transition theme.

What About Pure Lithium Mining Stocks?

This is still the widest deficit in the Indian listed market.

India is auctioning lithium blocks and is seeking to make supply deals abroad, but do not mistake every mining or battery company to be a direct lithium producer. Even Coal India’s expressed interest in a Chilean lithium asset is currently a strategic exploratory move and not a lithium business.

Meanwhile, there is more investment potential in the firms that are turning lithium and other materials into cells, battery parts, storage systems and recycled products.

Follow the Full Battery Value Chain

Conclusion

The best lithium stocks in India represent opportunities across the entire battery value chain. Exide Industries and Amara Raja are expanding into lithium-ion manufacturing, Himadri and Neogen are developing battery materials, Gravita is entering lithium recycling, and Tata Power is strengthening its energy-storage capabilities.

Although India’s growing battery demand and supportive manufacturing policies create strong long-term potential, investors should carefully assess each company’s valuation, debt, cash flow, capacity utilisation and project execution before investing.
