Today’s stock market news brings together major developments across agriculture, energy, banking, corporate governance, aviation, IPOs and consumer businesses. From India’s widening monsoon deficit and rising fossil fuel import costs to HDFC Bank’s fresh 52-week low, Avaada’s ₹7,600 crore IPO plans and the rapid expansion of quick commerce, Jarvis Invest brings you the key developments shaping markets and businesses today.

Stock Market News: Indian Monsoon Deficit Could Reach 13% as El Niño Raises Concerns Over Rabi Output

Indian monsoons are expected to close with a deficit of 13%, the worst since 2009. With the El Nino gathering momentum, there is every possibility that the eventual rainfall will be short of 90% of LPA. Two of the worst drought years were 2002 and 2009 when the monsoon was 20.9% and 18.3% short of the LPA. While the Kharif acreage is only down 2-3% as of date, it is more likely that the El Nino will negatively impact Rabi output. After a strong July, August rains were again short by around 14%. Apart from the deficit, spatial distribution has also been discouraging.

Stock Market News: India Pays Additional $22.6 Billion for Fossil Fuel Imports Between March and August

According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA); between March and August 2026, India has paid an additional $22.6 billion for fossil fuel imports. The impact on China was $35.5 billion, but China has a strong export engine so net impact would be limited. In India, the spike in the fossil fuel import bill has not only widened the trade deficit, but has also consistently weakened the Indian rupee. Globally, countries paid an additional $164 billion for crude oil, as compared to the pre-war period; while overall trade cost was around $330 billion.

HDFC Bank Hits Fresh 52-Week Low as US Class-Action Lawsuit Adds to Regulatory Concerns

The woes are not ending for HDFC Bank, as the stock touched a new 52-week low after a 2% fall on Thursday. The trigger was a US lawsuit filed against the bank and its senior executives. Market cap of HDFC Bank has now dropped below ₹11 trillion. The class action suit has been brought against HDFC Bank and its senior executives, mainly over non-disclosure of the ₹45 crore paid to MSRDC. This was actually additional interest paid, under the guise of marketing expenses. HDFC Bank is also facing statutory investigations for rampant mis-selling of financial products.

Stock Market News: Venu Srinivasan’s Tata Sons Board Position Could Face Scrutiny After SRTT Meeting Freeze Ends

The position of Venu Srinivasan on the board of Tata Sons is likely to face scrutiny after the meeting freeze on SRTT is lifted. SRTT can only hold its meeting after the freeze has been lifted by the Charity Commissioner. The issue arose after Venu Srinivasan publicly spoke in favour of listing Tata Sons, which was contrary to the decision of Tata Trusts board. This raises questions about the viability of his continuing as a nominee of the trusts on the board of Tata Sons. Srinivasan had also represented to Charity Commissioner about number of perpetual trustees on SRTT board.

Singapore Airlines to Evaluate Air India’s Strategy Before Committing to $1.50 Billion Fund Infusion

With Air India seeking fund infusion of $1.50 billion from its owners; Singapore Airlines will first evaluate the business strategy and utilization of the funds before committing to the investment. There was also an uproar in the Singapore Parliament over this issue. Singapore Airlines currently holds a 25.1% stake in Air India. Singapore Airlines is substantially owned by Temasek, which is one of the biggest foreign investors in India. Temasek is the sovereign wealth fund of Singapore. The concern is that if the turnaround takes 10 years, there may be more calls for capital.

Stock Market News: Avaada Files Revised DRHP for ₹7,600 Crore IPO, Plans ₹1,200 Crore Debt Repayment

Avaada has filed a revised DRHP for its IPO worth ₹7,600 crore. The IPO will comprise of a fresh issue of ₹1,600 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of ₹6,000 crore. The company is also planning a pre-IPO placement of ₹320 crore, which will be reduced from the IPO size. Out of the ₹1,600 crore raised via fresh issue,  nearly ₹1,200 crore will be used to retire debt. Currently, its borrowings stand at ₹3,926 crore. The company has 2 operational manufacturing facilities. While one of the facilities is located at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, the other is located at Nagpur.

Quick Commerce Expands to 477 Indian Cities and Towns as Competition Moves Beyond Urban Clusters

Quick commerce is not only deepening its hold in urban clusters, but also widening its reach. It is now available in 477 cities and towns across India. Players are making a concerted effort to tap the smaller markets. These markets are more about assured delivery than about speed. However, managing the logistics in these cases poses a major challenge. While market leaders like Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart are leveraging their dark stores; established retail players are making their store network double up as fulfilment centres. That is making competition interesting.

Stock Market News: Promoters and PE Investors Cash Out ₹58,000 Crore From Indian Companies in August

In the month of August 2026, promoters and private equity investors have cashed out of their stakes in Indian companies to the tune of ₹58,000 crore. This marks a massive sell-off and could be driven by the overall market uncertainty. The actual figure would be much higher if the divestment of the government stake in LIC is also considered. That is a lot of liquid supply that has arrived in the market and that probably explains why many of the IPOs in the market are getting substantial oversubscription. Private Equity (PE) selling was at the highest level seen in 2026 so far.

Conclusion

From concerns over India’s monsoon and higher fossil fuel costs to developments surrounding HDFC Bank, Tata Sons, Air India, Avaada and quick commerce, today’s stock market news highlights several important shifts across the economy and corporate India. Stay informed with Jarvis Invest as we track the developments influencing businesses, investors and markets.
